“We do what we do, because children matter!”
- Tina Allen, Liddle Kidz® Foundation

Tina Allen | Liddle Kidz Foundation | Outeach Vietnam 20122012 has been amazing!! The Liddle Kidz Foundation Volunteer Ambassadors have just returned from an outreach to Vietnam.  Traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, our team provided infant and pediatric massage for hundreds of orphaned infants and children, as well as education for their caregivers.

This was a return trip to Vietnam and we are delighted to have seen results of our first visit.  One orphanage shared that the number of hospital visits for their children has declined from approximately 40 visits per year before our visit, to 3 – 4 visits per year since they have applied our massage techniques.

Our international volunteer group was comprised of American and Canadian infant massage teachers and pediatric massage therapists who were able to share Liddle Kidz Foundation techniques throughout the country.  Educational materials were presented in English with live Vietnamese translation.  Each orphanage staff member, and caregiver, was provided with a translated booklet of materials to keep, study and share.

Through these global outreach missions providing hands-on care, we hope to communicate our love, care and compassion.  It is our goal to have a positive lifelong impact, and create hopeful futures for the children!

Liddle Kidz Foundation Volunteers | Outreach Vietnam 2012

Liddle Kidz Foundation continues to consult with a number of leading pediatric hospitals and healthcare settings on program development and research studies to further grow our professional field, and in 2012, Pediatric massage also received great international acknowledgement from the professional massage community, as the The American Massage Therapy Association, American Massage Conference, Florida State Massage Therapy Association and the Canadian Massage Conference asked me to present during their internationally recognized conferences.

Tina Allen on the Cover of Massage MagazineAnd, we are happy to announce that pediatric massage has reached front page news, with a feature article and cover photo on Massage Magazine.  Additionally, this year I was given a wonderful surprise when I was honored as the 2012 recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year award from Massage Therapy Foundation and Performance Health at the AMTA National Convention.  To receive acknowledgment for something you love to do, makes accepting such an award even more of an honor.

I would like to also personally thank ABMP and AMTA for recognizing pediatric massage as a professional massage modality.  Through simply asking each association to list pediatric massage on their website – it has been done.  So, if you are a member of either association, please take a moment and update your profile to indicate you practice pediatric massage therapy.

Australian Flag | MapInfant and pediatric massage certification courses are being offered in Brunei Darussalam, Australia and Japan, in addition to our courses offered throughout North America.   Now is the time to take charge of the future of children’s healthcare.

Our global outreach program in Japan continues to grow.  Global ambassadors have been trained, and provided hands-on massage therapy and nurturing touch to hundreds of infants and children.

Brunei FlagTo create sustainable impact, the Japanese volunteers have committed to volunteer in their communities sharing the information learned.

New organizational relationships have been established, and during my last visit to Japan for 30 days, I lectured and volunteered for 29 of those 30 days.  So, to say our work is being well received is an understatement.

Touch Therapy for Liddle Kidz™ with Trauma (Massage for Children with Trauma)Finally, an advanced pediatric massage therapy training program for healthcare professionals who wish to provide Touch Therapy for Liddle Kidz® with Trauma

The comprehensive Touch Therapy for Liddle Kidz® with Trauma (Massage for Children with Trauma) Course is an intense, fun and effective way to advance your pediatric massage therapy skills and embrace children who have been affected by Trauma. The impact of child abuse and trauma is far greater than its immediate effects. Trauma may come in many forms including hospitalization, experiencing physical and verbal abuse, witnessing traumatic events and traumatic natural events.

These experiences can shape a child’s development, and have consequences that last for years beyond the actual event.

Through this advanced training, participants learn to provide massage therapy, nurturing touch techniques, touch therapy and tactile introduction for children who have experienced trauma.   learn more

Breaking the Cycle: Massage for Abused Children
“You’re an idiot! Why did you do that?”  Smack, whack, slam . . . does this sounds like anyway you would treat a child?  Well, unfortunately, this is the reality for many children throughout the United States.  Abuse is found in many homes, kept a secret behind closed doors.  Whether they are first hand recipients of physical touch, being yelled at or witnessing abuse of another, the effects are deep and long felt.

Considering a Career in Pediatric Massage
Many massage therapists just entering the field of massage therapy are looking for a specific focus and place to specialize. This is why the field of pediatric massage is so exciting. Now, a modality that hadn’t been spoken of in the past is starting to receive mainstream medical credibility. This acceptance allows for a massage therapist to truly follow their passion and begin providing massage therapy for children who are healthy or have special healthcare needs.

 What's happening at Liddle Kidz?

mayo-clinic-logo"Working with Tina was dynamic and life enhancing.  Many people have hopes and dreams to make the world a better place, but Tina is someone who has taken her focus on pediatric massage as a way to connect with people who want to contribute by making the world a more connected and caring place.

It is uplifting to work with someone who has crystallized her vision and purpose into work that inspires others to succeed and go beyond the constraints of usual convention to help those in need."

Children's Hospital Los Angeles logo“I am very grateful to have had the experience of working with Tina Allen, and her staff in my role as counselor and patient advocate for a population of children affected with retinoblastoma (eye cancer).

Tina and her staff developed a program to help these babies and their parents. Using her expertise, she was able to teach parents to first practice gentle touch on one another, then on a doll and eventually on their baby. The experience was wonderful for the families that were participants in the program.

I am in awe of Tina’s expertise, enthusiasm and sensitivity and wish to express my support of her newest endeavor, Liddle Kidz, offering gentle touch message to infants and their parents. Our society in general does not teach parents how to calm their baby with gentle touch. I have observed first hand how this method can help quiet even the most upset child even under extremely challenging circumstances.

Infant Massage Certification | Japan"I absolutely loved the Infant Massage class.  I think Tina Allen creates a wonderful atmosphere for learning and we had an incredible group of Occupational Therapists and Massage Therapists who are really interested in bringing Infant Massage to families.  Tina is extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic and warm which makes her not only someone you want to learn from, but easy to learn from.

Tina is also concerned with us being successful and is willing to help us long after the course is over.  I have never experienced that before, unless you pay for it.  I will be sure to take more classes with Tina in the future.”

Shannon Doher | Touch Institute Los AngelesWho are you?
My name is Shannon Doher. I am a CPMT/CIMT and director/founder of Touch Institute Los Angeles Inc. located in family-friendly El Segundo, California.

“Tina is one of the most energetic and compassionate individuals I have had the pleasure of meeting. Her global efforts on behalf of all children, and especially those with special needs, has inspired me to pursue my dream of opening a clinic where children and their families can benefit from nurturing touch in a peaceful, outpatient setting.  Tina's positive outlook is contagious.  Her support is sincere and never ending.  I am very happy to call her my mentor and my friend.“

Share a memorable moment from an infant massage class:
In one of my classes, a toddler was not too excited about getting a massage.  His mom later informed me that after they went home and her son had eaten his lunch, he told her, “Mommy me ready for myssage now!”

What have you learned from a family (or baby) in your classes? One of the families I work with is struggling with the challenges of divorce and has told me that massage therapy has really helped both her and her children relax during times of stress.

Touch Institute Los AngelesWhat makes you happy? I’m happiest spending simple times with family and friends, especially my two terrific teenagers, Shanelle and Zander.

What makes you sad? My mom passed away 3 years ago.  She was my best friend and I miss her very much.  Living so far away from my father, and my three sisters and their families makes me sad sometimes.  They all live in Ontario, Canada.

If not yourself, who would you be? There is no one I would rather be.  I’m still evolving!

The Beibs and his MomIf you were to invite any three people for dinner, who would they be? U. S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton whom in addition to her political achievements is an advocate for children and families and the empowerment of women worldwide.  Author Paulo Coelho whose novel the Alchemist inspires me to follow my dreams.  Pattie Mallette, a single mother and fellow Canadian who struggled financially but never gave up and helped her son, Justin Bieber, achieve his dream.  My kids would be thrilled if she brought Justin along too!

What is your idea of happiness? Happiness is a state of mind.  I try to look on the bright side in challenging times, be thankful, and find pleasure in simple things.  This outlook helps me be happy most of the time!

What is your main fault? I’m detail oriented which is both a blessing and a curse!

What’s your favorite color? People who know me would say BLACK, to which I reply, true, but black is really a hue!

Lebanese FoodWhat’s your favorite food? That’s a tough one.  There is virtually nothing I won’t eat.  Japanese, Lebanese, and Italian, are my favorites!

What’s your favorite motto? Don't give up on your dream.

What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, leisurely dinners, listening to music, dancing, playing tennis, skiing, walks with my dog Lillie, beach days, sunsets, and a great game of scrabble!
